The fight for sanity is not always obvious
Hiding behind costly wears, bravado, smiles and false cheer
These demons, constantly fight the mind gunning for supremacy
Like battering rams, they lay siege against the bars and doors of your sanity.
Ugliness and age;
Fears and insecurity;
Lost strength and bad health;
Disappointments and heartbreaks.
Mask of gentleness and friendliness hold rage at bay
Masks of generosity conceal constant peeks at the purse
Masks of submission and contriteness hide feelings of justification
Smiles and encouraging words conceal sneers at the back of the weak.
Seething in anger will rot your mind and its thoughts.
Exorbitant Pretense will decimate your finances and hide who you are
Fighting your wars alone and hiding your wounds will open you up to infections
Disgust at yourself and others will trivialize your life and your very existence - it will only harm you
Remember simpler times and days.
When beauty was just an introduction to the wonder behind it.
When you slept with no thought as to what would happen while your eyes were closed
When you quickly sought out alternatives when the doors were slammed in your face without a care
Friends were flawed people you loved
Gifts were a sign of love not unending oppulence
Submission and contriteness were a display of honest humility
Smiles were a mark of affirmation and encouraging words were said to uplift
You were a delight and a joy
Your presence was like the coming of the Lord
You were untwisted in your mind and free to conquer the world
Those are the days you must find again - Days lost behind the clouds you've shrouded yourself in.
