Lyric Card based on Gavin Degraw's 'I Don't Wanna Be" |
We watch each other
We study each other
In an incestuous cycle
We all recycle identity
Walking the observed path
Speaking the imitated language
That comes from him
Then came from her
She went this way
We followed her path
He made it work
We work it too
Our collective identity proliferates
Stifling our individual identites
So our minds revolt
Under muddled up Identities
Let the imitator beware
The identities of others are biased
Meant for their lives
Meant for their purpose
Look, See the world
And accept the truth
Identity is not Singular
Identity exists in plural
The identity you need
Lies in your DNA
In feelings and abilities
In your ignored history
The search is yours
The code is yours
So, find your identity
You will find peace
This lyric card note explores the idea that most of us are faking the lives we live in the sense that it is a copy imitation of another peron's life. Most do not know who they are and they take the cue or inspiration for their identity from the world around them. An observation of the lives around us makes it clear that, most people are pretending to be something that they are not. I believe that:
- Knowing who you are is what defines of you.
- Who you are can only be revealed by introspection.
- Needing to be something that someone else is, is not always a real need.
- The secret or code for who you need to be is written deep in your DNA, your thoughts, your feeling and in your lived experience.
